I just want to educate some people on some misconceptions regarding Godzilla seeing as we are five months away from the new film. I'm just gonna get the small things out of the way.

  1. "Godzilla is green": No. No he's not. He was only green in two films (mostly because they just reused the same suit): Godzilla 2000 and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus. In most of the films, Godzilla is charcoal gray, dark gray or black. Also, on a side note, Godzilla does not have scales, his skin is actually grooved.
  2. "Godzilla is a girl": Toho has explicitly stated Godzilla is of a male gender. He's called the King of the Monsters, not Queen
  3. "Godzilla breathes fire": Okay, despite what Marvel, Hanna Barbara or (God forbid) Roland Emmerich would want you to believe, Godzilla. Does. Not. Breathe. Fire. He utilizes a stream of radioactive plasma. The reason his Atomic Ray is blue is because of Chernekov Radiation
  4. (We're starting to get to the big points here) "Godzilla is a hero who wouldn't hurt a fly": Yes. Yes he would. Godzilla didn't originally start out as a hero, he started out as a straight up threat. He was only a hero in the late Showa films and Hanna Barbara cartoon.
  5. "Godzilla is just a poor defenseless animal": Let's see here, does a "poor, defenseless animal" intentionally destroy cities, kill innocent lives or put civilian lives in danger when he's fighting other monsters? Let me put this in very, strict terms. Godzilla. Is. A. Monster. King Kong was an animal. The Rhedosaurus was an animal. Clover was an animal. Godzilla isn't.
  6. "Godzilla is asexual": No. He's. Not. He raised Minilla and Godzilla Junior but he didn't give birth to them.
  7. (Here's the big one) "Godzilla is silly and goofy": Only a few, let me repeat that, few, movies have been silly and made for kids. Other than that, there are lots of darker and more mature Godzilla films out there. The very first film in 1954 was a very dark, very grim and very serious allegory of the atomic bomb and the horrors of nuclear holocaust. The new film this year will be a return to Godzilla's darker roots.
Just want to point some things out.

Godzilla has hurt moths, spiders, praying mantises, and whatever the blue blazes Megaguirus is (scorpion-dragonfly mix); I see no reason why flies are off the table.

Another fun fact: The original Godzilla is brown. Check out the original color posters. Any depiction of THAT Godzilla as gray is actually inaccurate. Crazy, huh?
